Probably the most famous carnival parade in Drenthe continues today Stiekelstad. A bit of a carnival enthusiast then knows what day it is: Rosenmontag.
Carnival association ‘t Stiekelzwien traditionally controls the procession. Dozens of floats, decked out and dressed, drive on Stiekelstad, the rest of the year better known as Barger-Compascuum. The floats are accompanied by so-called walking groups that provide a real carnival atmosphere.
The history of Rosenmontag in Drenthe has not been without struggles in recent years. In 2019 had to Stiekelstad cancel the Rosenmontag parade because of too strong winds. After the 2019 edition, corona became a spoilsport in 2021. “Yes, that made us sad. It was a terrible weekend,” said Manfred Bos van ‘t Stiekelzwien at RTV Drenthe.
Last year’s carnival came just after the relaxation of the corona rules. All the uncertainty of that time has now come to an end. Preparations have been made for months for carnival and the accompanying parade Stiekelstad.
How did Rosenmontag go exactly three years ago? RTV Drenthe broadcast the parade in Stiekelstad live:
