Poison in the offices, dwindling employees and laptops that cannot be used: the aid office is under land – and thousands of civil servants have been sitting at their expense for a long time!
Police officers, firefighters and judges are not covered by statutory health insurance, but receive subsidies for their bills that arise in connection with illness, care, birth or death. The so-called allowance serves as social security for the civil servants and their families because they are not subject to social security contributions.
However, there are major problems when it comes to processing the applications: the processing time for applications is often more than ten weeks!
Benjamin Jendro from the police union (GdP): “The problems with the aid office have been going on for years and are a huge source of frustration among colleagues. Politicians must finally find solutions.” But the list of problems is long …
► 20 rooms of the aid office have been blocked by the accident insurance. The reason: A heavy metal contamination was detected.
► In a short time, 23 employees left the benefits office because they found a new job or retired. Only seven new employees were hired.
► In 2019, around 10,000 applications for aid were submitted per week, but now there are up to 13,000.
► In the first five weeks of the year, around 700 of the possible 2,000 days of employee attendance were lost due to illness/pandemic.
► An absence rate of around 40 percent (because of illness, quarantine, childcare, parental leave or vacation) means that the work burdens only a few shoulders.
► Home office work is not possible. The employees have promised 60 laptops and have probably already had them delivered. However, it is not possible for them to process applications from home.

GdP spokesman Jendro to the BZ: “It is unbelievable that police officers, firefighters and others who work 24/7 in the capital’s service remain on their applications and thus get into financial difficulties.”
He and the main staff council are now demanding at least 40 employees for the aid agency.
