Åland oven sausage – an easy recipe

Åland oven sausage is ennobled with a cheesy sauce before putting it in the oven.

The oven sausage is the most popular way to eat jogging sausage, reveals the sausage research conducted by HKScan. According to the survey, by far the majority of people prepare their baked goods with cheese.

In the traditional style, a long incision is made in the sausage, into which the cheese is dipped. In Åland’s oven sausage, instead, a sauce made from Västerbotten cheese is poured over the sausages.

THE FACTS

The second most popular use for jogging sausage is sausage sauce and the third most popular is sausage soup. More than half of the survey respondents said that they eat jogging sausage both cold and warm.

Åland oven sausage and Västerbotten cheese

1 pkt jogging sausage (e.g. HK’s Sininen)

2 tbsp ketchup

2 tablespoons of mustard

5 dl cooking cream

0.5 tsp ground black pepper

200 g of Västerbotten cheese crumbles

parsley

1. Remove the skin from the sausages. Cut a 1.5 centimeter deep slit lengthwise on the surface and cut the sausages in half. Place the sausages in the baking dish.

2. Mix the cream, ketchup, mustard, cheese crumbles and black pepper together with a stick blender, for example, but leave a couple of tablespoons of cheese for finishing.

3. Pour the mixture into the baking dish over the sausages. Bake in the oven at 180 degrees for about 20-25 minutes until the sausages are hot and the surface is nicely browned.

4. Finish with the remaining cheese crumbs and parsley. Serve, for example, with roasted potatoes and a fresh salad.
