Al-Shorta fifth time Iraqi champion – 23 points clear

After just 31 of 38 match days in the Iraqi Premier League, Al-Shorta SC can celebrate their fifth Iraqi championship and thus secure their first since the 2018/19 season. A 2-0 win on Tuesday night against fourth-placed Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya kept Al-Shorta top of the table (82 points) and secured their place in the upcoming AFC Champions League season.

The golden goals of the evening came from Ali Husni (48′) and international Mahmoud Al-Mawas (26′), who scored the 20th goal and leads the scorer list by a wide margin. Head coach Momen Soliman from Egypt became league champion for the first time on his first stop abroad. Chaser Al-Talaba SC with eight wins fewer currently has 59 points, followed by Naft Al-Wassat SC (58) and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (55) and Al-Zawraa SC (54).
