Al Pacino in first Johnny Depp-directed movie since ’97 | show

Johnny Depp will direct a film for the first time since 1997 and announced the cast on Wednesday. Al Pacino, Riccardo Scamarcio and Pierre Niney, among others, play in the biopic about the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, entertainment website reports deadline.

Based on a play by Dennis McIntyre, the film is about the famous painter and sculptor Modigliani (1884-1920) during his time in Paris in 1916. The artist has actually finished his artistic career at that point, but is artists changed their minds.

Depp directed his first feature film in 1997. In The Brave he was seen together with Marlon Brando. The Pirates of the Caribbeanactor also directed several music videos for his ex-wife Vanessa Paradis.

Going next week Joan of Barry premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Depp plays the role of the French King Louis XV in the film. This is Depp’s comeback as an actor on the big screen after he spent most of his time in court in recent years, including the libel case against his ex Amber Heard.
