Aki and Rita Manninen currently own an island in the Pori archipelago, in their old home.
Aki Manninen opens his yard gate Putin– while the dog is watching next door. The summer evening sun is shining and an island surrounded by the sea opens up in front, to which a road from the mainland leads.
The island has many buildings, a sauna and a small forest area. The beach is adorned with a swimming pier, a boat and Aki’s boat Tyyne.

They greeted at the door of the main building Rita Niemi-Manninen and a daughter Donna, 3. The family has found their own summer paradise in front of their old hometown Pori. The deals were made in early summer, and now the entrepreneurial couple already have many long-term plans and dreams for the island.

The family’s permanent home is in Lempäälä, but they miss the sea. Now you can admire it from every direction of the island. The acquisition of a summer place is a partial return to the old home region, where Manniset was perhaps a little too well known.
Peaceful life

In Lempäälä, the Mannines have found their own peace, and there are no more surprise visitors flashing in front of their home. Even now, the holiday island of Pori is quite far away, and the only troublemakers are a fox and a raccoon.
– We are treated differently here than before, a little more cautiously, says Aki.

– When we moved away, many thought that “they really dared to leave”, Rita continues.
However, the family likes to go on errands and enjoy the city in the center of Pori.

The sea and nature were the most attractive features of the island. Aki likes to fish and Donna and the dog can run and play freely on the grass. Rita goes shopping, goes boating with her husband and plans the improvement of buildings.
– Here you can put the phone away, relax and enjoy nature. We have also noticed how much Donna enjoys nature, says Aki.

The island has a long history. The main building dates from 1914. In recent years, the island was used for recreation by a company, but before that the resident was a man who had lived on the island all his life. Before the road was built, residents of the surrounding area rowed to the island to buy milk and fish.
The Mannites respect the memory of the island, but also want to make it look like their own.

– Places like this are rarely available, they run in families. Now that we have this for ourselves, we are really going to keep it and one day it will belong to Donna, says Rita.
