The meeting between Ajax Women and VV Alkmaar in the women’s Eredivisie was won by the Amsterdam leader. Romée Leuchter became the match winner at Sportpark De Toekomst with two goals after the break.
For an hour, the Alkmaar women had hopes for a stunt in Amsterdam. Leader Ajax Women had the upper hand, but that didn’t really lead to great opportunities. Leuchter managed to break the spell in the 61st minute. Soon after the 1-0, the striker also made the second goal of the evening, which decided the North Holland game.
In the ranking, the team of trainer Danny Schenkel has a four-point lead over number two FC Twente, which will still play against PEC Zwolle on Sunday. VV Alkmaar is eighth of the nine Eredivisie teams after 17 of 24 matches.
