Ajax Women plays first classic in Arena on Saturday: “Feels like home for us too”

On Wednesday morning, the Ajax Women were given a tour of the Johan Cruijff Arena to explore the stadium, the changing rooms and the route for next Saturday. Then they will play against Feyenoord for the first time in history in the Johan Cruijff Arena. “A dream come true.”

“If you had said five years ago that we would ever be allowed to play for so many people in the Arena, everyone would have thought we were crazy,” says coach Suzanne Bakker shortly after training. “It is fantastic that it has come to this point and I hope that many more competitions may follow in the future.”

Tickets for the Classic are going fast. To date, more than 28,500 tickets have been sold. That is almost twice as much as the current Eredivisie record for women. In De Kuip last year, about 14,618 spectators saw Ajax win against Feyenoord with 1-4.

Dream

Attacker Romée Leuchter has now proven that she can score against Feyenoord. When Feyenoord came to visit last year, they decided the match with two goals in ten minutes. “I hope to be able to be important to the team again with goals or assists. But above all that we play a very good match as a team and can entertain the audience. And win against Feyenoord. That is the most important thing.”

Kick-off is Saturday at 4:30 p.m. There are still tickets for sale. You can enter for 7.50 euros.
