Ajax Women miss out on first season prize and get a beating from FC Twente

The Ajax Women missed out on the first prize of the season. In the Supercup FC Twente was much too strong for the reigning national champion with 5-2. Last year the Supercup was also for the team from Enschede.

At De Toekomst sports park in Amsterdam, Ajax fell behind after just 39 seconds. Debutant Liz Rijsbergen hit from outside the box. Just before half-time, Renate Jansen scored the visitors’ second goal of the day. With a 0-2 score, both teams went to the dressing rooms.

From bad to worse

Ajax came back early in the second half through a goal from Tiny Hoekstra. Nevertheless, the tension in the game was quickly gone because Twente captain Renate Jansen made it 1-3 in the 59th minute and Wieke Kaptein made it 1-4 in the 66th minute. Things got even worse for Suzanne Bakker’s team. FC Twente ran out to 1-5 by a goal from Eva Oude Elberink.

A lot went wrong with the Ajax Women. The game was over with 25 minutes to play. Both teams made a lot of changes. With five minutes to go, Romée Leuchter did something for the team from Amsterdam and set the final score at 2-5.
