More than 20,000 spectators saw the Ajax Women surprisingly win against Bayern Munich Women in the group stage of the Champions League tonight. In the Johan Cruijff Arena, a strong Ajax defeated the German champions 1-0. With this victory, Ajax is now at the top of group C.
After last week’s good draw in Munich, Ajax starts the first half with courage tonight. A German is regularly sent into the forest. The first big chance is for Ajax after five minutes. But Romée Leuchter’s shot, after she cuts in strongly, flies over.
Ajax is strong in duels and therefore gives away few chances. They create a number of them themselves. In minute nineteen, Weerden hits the ball against the crossbar from about twenty meters. Just before half time, the crowd in the Johan Cruijff Arena gets what they came for when Romée Leuchter is sent into the depths by Nadine Noordam. Just past the sixteen she undoubtedly shoots the ball into the long corner. It is the attacker’s first goal in the Champions League.
Tension after rest
After the break, Ajax had opportunities to double the score, but the champion from Germany also became dangerous. In the 57th minute, Zadrazil’s long-range shot narrowly missed the Amsterdam goal.
In the last twenty minutes, Bayern pushed to get the equalizer. This led to a number of dangerous moments and scrimmages in the penalty area, with Ajax getting away a number of times. The crowd held their breath until deep into injury time, but Ajax eventually managed to keep a clean sheet.

With the victory, Ajax takes first place in group C. On January 24, Ajax will play the away match against Paris Saint-Germaint and on January 30 they will host AS Roma in the Johan Cruijff Arena.
