Ajax wins the previously abandoned match against RKC Waalwijk, AZ-NEC remains 1-2

Ajax won the previously abandoned match against RKC Waalwijk 3-2 on Wednesday evening. Six minutes still had to be played in Waalwijk, after the match was ended prematurely at the end of September at 3-2 due to a serious head injury for RKC keeper Etienne Vaessen. RKC, which tried to force the equalizer, did not get any further than a header from Filip Stevanonic. That ball went over.

Vaessen had already returned from his injury for a while and was also in goal on Wednesday evening. Nowadays he plays his matches with a helmet. With the victory, Ajax rises to sixth place in the Eredivisie. RKC Waalwijk remains in fifteenth place.

Opportunities AZ

NEC had also won the remainder of the match against AZ, which was suspended last October, an hour earlier. In Alkmaar, the Nijmegen team did not give up a 2-1 lead, despite AZ having several chances to equalize. Ruben van Bommel and Mexx Meerdink, among others, were close, but their shots were blocked or went over the goal. With the victory, NEC rises to 12th place in the rankings, while AZ remains two points behind number 2 Feyenoord.

The match between AZ and NEC was stopped in October because NEC player and former international Bas Dost collapsed. He is doing well now. NEC captain Bram Nuytinck said to ESPN after the match won: “We did it for Bas. His shirt was also hanging in the locker room.”
