Ajax through in Europe after winning against AEK Athens

Ajax is through in Europe. In the Johan Cruijff Arena they won 3-1 against AEK Athens. The victory means that the team from Amsterdam will play in the interim round of the Conference League after the winter break.

Early in the match, Ajax took the lead through a header by Chupa Akpom. The Amsterdam team could not enjoy the lead for long, as AEK Athens came back into the match in the tenth minute. Levi Garcia extended a cross and the ball flew in.

In the lead

After twenty minutes Ajax took the lead again. After a flashy Ajax attack, it was Kenneth Taylor who took the ball beautifully and managed to shoot it diagonally. After the second Amsterdam goal, the pace of the match dropped slightly. Ajax did have the initiative and had opportunities through Brobbey and Akpom, but no more goals were scored in the first half.

At the start of the second half, Ajax found itself in a bad situation. Chupa Akpom shot in. The AEK keeper was not released, but that did not spoil the fun. Akpom then had several chances, but the ball did not go in yet.

Debut

Devyne Rensch had to leave injured in the 73rd minute. His replacement was Tristan Gooijer who made his debut for the Amsterdam team. The Greeks were quite open in the final phase. This gave Akpom another great opportunity. He went for his own chance, but should have put the ball wide for Gooijer.

Ajax finished the match with ease and won 3-1 against AEK Athens. Thanks to the victory, the Amsterdam team will still compete in the European context after the winter break.
