Ajax seems to be betting on Alfred Schreuder’s return. The current trainer of Club Brugge is, according to VI and The Telegraph seen as one of the most important candidates to succeed the departing Erik ten Hag.
The 49-year-old trainer still has a contract in Belgium until the summer of 2023, but could be picked up by the Amsterdammers for a lump sum of 1.5 million euros. Schreuder is still in the race for the championship with Club Brugge.
Assistant to Ten Hag
The Amsterdam club management is said to have inquired about the contract situation of Schreuder, who worked as an assistant to Ten Hag at Ajax in the successful 2018/19 season. He left in the summer of 2019 to become head coach of Germany’s Hoffenheim. After that he was still active as assistant coach to Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, after which he signed a contract for one and a half years with Club Brugge in January 2022.
Ajax is diligently looking for a new trainer for next season, since Ten Hag is a oral agreement has reached with Manchester United and will leave within weeks.
