Ajax started the duel with Mohammed Kudus in the striker. Alfred Schreuder opted for the Ghanaian in the attack, at the expense of Brian Brobbey. From the first minute, Ajax had the upper hand. Jurriën Timber first headed a corner kick over the Rangers goal, but at the next corner it was hit. Edson Álvarez towered over everyone and nodded the 1-0 in the far corner.

Seas of space

Ajax never gave the opponent from Glasgow the opportunity to play football. Ajax was on top of it, got a lot of space to play football and was lord and master in its own stadium. The 2-0 was therefore not long in coming. Steven Berghuis looked for the combination, but the ball ended up in the goal via a Scottish leg. The highlight of the first half came a minute later. Kudus went on an adventure on the left, came in the box and shot hard in the far corner: 3-0.

In the second half the picture of the game was quite monotonous. Ajax continued to dominate, but was no longer necessary. The pace dropped and it took a long time before Ajax got a real chance again in the second company. In the 68th minute Steven Bergwijn tried from a great distance. However, the record purchase attempt was easy prey for Rangers goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.

Yet another goal was added at the end of the second half. Steven Bergwijn outplayed McLaughlin this time and scored the fourth goal of the evening. Despite the introduction of attackers Lucas Ocampos and Brian Brobbey, the audience in Amsterdam did not see a fifth goal and it remained 4-0.

Ajax will be back in action next Saturday. Then in the Eredivisie, sc Heerenveen comes to visit Amsterdam.
