In the run-up to the semifinals, Ajax defeated Barendrecht (4-0), Excelsior Maassluis (9-0) and Vitesse (5-0). So now awaits a game with AZ. The Alkmaarders reached the semi-finals by beating Heracles Almelo (4-1), FC Twente (1-2) and RKC Waalwijk.
PSV, which tonight beat Vitesse 0-5, reached the semi-finals by beating NAC Breda 4-0. Earlier, the Eindhoven team defeated Telstar (2-1) and Fortuna Sittard (2-0). They will therefore compete against Go Ahead Eagles, which already started a round earlier than Ajax, PSV and AZ. The team from Deventer won the cup tournament against Almere City FC (0-2), Roda JC (2-0), SC Heerenveen (0-1) and NEC (0-2).
In the previous draw it had already become clear that AZ and Go Ahead Eagles may play a home game in the semi-finals. The final of the cup tournament is on Sunday 17 April. Last season Ajax won the cup by beating Vitesse 2-1. The matches will be played on 1, 2 or 3 March. It will be announced later which match is when. The winner of Go Ahead Eagles – PSV has the home advantage in the final.
