Ajax is in discussions with Michael van Praag and Leo van Wijk about a position on the Supervisory Board. The duo must replace Pier Eringa and interim general manager Jan van Halst, who resigned yesterday.
The club confirmed this in a press release. “As this is an ongoing process, no further information can be provided.” According to The Telegraph the joining of Van Praag and Van Wijk is only a formality. The General Meeting for Shareholders will take place on November 10. Then a decision must be made about the arrival of both men.
Ajax DNA
In any case, the two men have an enormous amount of Ajax DNA. As a football player, Leo van Wijk made it to the second team of Ajax and joined the Supervisory Board in 2012, of which he eventually became chairman. Van Praag also has a nice past at Ajax. He was chairman of the Amsterdam club from 1989 to 2003. During that period, the Amsterdam club achieved great success, with the Champions League final victory in 1995 as the highlight. In 2008, Van Praag became chairman of the KNVB. He held that position for seven years. Van Praag is currently chairman of the Dutch Sports Council.
