Footballer Bennie Muller has died at the age of 85. Ajax announced this today. Muller was one of the regular faces of Ajax in the 1960s, and was part of the team that rose to the top of the world under Rinus Michels.
The Amsterdammer played 426 matches for Ajax between 1958 and 1970. He became national champion four times and won the cup twice. A year before Ajax won the first European Cup, Muller left for Holland Sport in Scheveningen after 12 years of loyal service. In 1972 he ended his career with Amsterdam’s Blauw-Wit.
Magic Mist Contest
In 2020, we looked back with Muller on perhaps the most legendary match of Muller’s career: the famous fog match against Liverpool in the Olympic Stadium. The match is still remembered as the evening when Ajax made itself heard internationally for the first time.
