Ajax does not get further than a draw against Excelsior

In a spectacular duel, Ajax drew 2-2 against Excelsior. The team from Amsterdam fell behind 2-1 in the second half, but substitute Davy Klaassen scored the equalizer. In the final phase, Ajax went on the hunt for the winner, but did not succeed.

The home team started the match fiercely, but after about ten minutes Ajax took over the initiative. After an error in Excelsior’s defense, Brian Brobbey managed to put Ajax ahead in the 25th minute. Towards half-time, Brobbey seemed to score the second of the evening, but his goal was disallowed for offside.

Ajax got the lid on the nose, because Siebe Horemans made the equalizer after a nice attack. With a 1-1 score, both teams went to the locker room.

Ajax started the second half badly. After an error by Jakov Medic, Excelsior took the lead. Nikolas Agrafiotis was the goalscorer. Ajax pushed hard and that resulted in Davy Klaassen’s equalizer. He worked the ball in nicely on a pass from Mohammed Kudus.

Ajax had many chances in the last fifteen minutes, but Excelsior also became dangerous via a counter. The team from Amsterdam went on the hunt for the winning goal, but did not succeed.
