The stay at Ajax is only limited to six months. Georges Mikautadze is now returning to his old club FC Metz. The Amsterdam summer acquisition, who came for 16 million euros, is rented out to the French club until the end of the season.
Mikautadze’s departure had been in the air for several days. The Georgian did not travel to Spain for Ajax’s training camp. He was given the space to explore to a new club.
Last summer, Ajax took over the attacking midfielder from FC Metz. Technical director Sven Mislintat paid around 16 million euros for Mikautadze. However, he could not live up to the high expectations. Under trainers Maurice Steijn, Hedwiges Maduro and John van ‘t Schip, he had to settle for a reserve role, because he played only nine games for Ajax in total.
Mikautadze’s contract with Ajax runs until the summer of 2028. FC Metz is the current number 14 in the French league.
