Jan van Halst was appointed the new general manager of Ajax this morning. He is therefore chairman of the board. It is a temporary title until Alex Kroes is allowed to take office. Due to a non-compete clause with AZ, where he worked as director of International Football Strategy until September 1, Kroes cannot yet start his new job.
Van Halst will stop as a commissioner of Ajax with immediate effect. The brand new member of the Supervisory Board (RvC) thus succeeds Edwin van der Sar, who earlier this year resigned his duties as general manager after 11 years.
The Amsterdam club ideally sees Van Halst return as a commissioner as soon as Kroes can start his new job. Exactly when this will be is still unclear, Ajax says.
