Dinamo Zagreb no longer has a chance of a place in the main draw of the Champions League. The Croats, with players who are of interest to Ajax and Feyenoord, drew 2-2 in the third preliminary round against AEK Athens. In Zagreb, the Greek top club had won 2-1.
The game between AEK and Dinamo Zagreb was postponed due to heavy riots earlier this month. A Greek fan was killed in the incident.
Dinamo Zagreb seemed to be on its way to a win and a place in the play-offs in Athens, but things went wrong in injury time. Precisely Domagoj Vida, former player of Zagreb, made it 2-2 in the 10th minute of stoppage time. He headed in after a penalty was turned.
At Dinamo Zagreb, Josip Sutalo and Luka Ivanusec participated in the entire game. Defender Sutalo has been associated with Ajax for weeks and Ivanusec is emphatically in the interest of Feyenoord. Reportedly, Dinamo Zagreb only wanted to talk about transfers after the preliminary rounds of the Champions League.
At AEK, former PSV player Nordin Amrabat was in the starting line-up. The Greeks will compete in the play-offs against Royal Antwerp FC, the Belgian champion led by trainer Mark van Bommel.
