After former Bundesliga manager Sven Mislintat left Ajax Amsterdam, according to a media report, Louis van Gaal is not available for a position and thus a return to the traditional club, which is currently in serious crisis. That’s not an option, the 72-year-old told the Dutch public broadcaster “NOS“: “My health comes first.”
Van Gaal has prostate cancer and recently had to undergo another operation. “I can no longer imagine being a coach of a club. For a country, it depends on many factors,” he explained. Van Gaal worked as a coach at Ajax from September 1991 to June 1997, returning in November 2003 as technical director for almost a year.

From August 2021 until the end of last year, the former Bayern coach worked as a bond coach for the Dutch selection for the third time. Most recently, before the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann, he was considered a candidate for the German national coaching position.
At the end of an eventful Sunday with the inglorious abandonment of the classic between Ajax and Feyenoord Rotterdam, Ajax separated from Mislintat with immediate effect due to the repeated setting off of pyrotechnics. The 50-year-old was only in office as football director for four months. The club announced that Mislintat no longer had full support in the club. He is in focus because of a possible conflict of interest in the move of Croatian international Borna Sosa from Mislintat’s former club VfB Stuttgart to Ajax.
