De Groot foresees an important role for electric flying. “In 2030, electric 19-seaters will connect the (Northern) Netherlands in a quiet, sustainable and efficient way with other European regions,” the advertisement reads. “It also relieves the burden on the larger airports.”
Broad social function
In the advertisement, GAE emphasizes the broad social function of the airport. For example, it supports Schiphol’s network function and is essential for accessibility, the business climate and the economy of the Northern Netherlands.
In addition, says De Groot, GAE is the base for the trauma helicopter of the Mobile Medical Team of the UMCG and it is the home base of the KLM Flight Academy, KLM’s pilot training.
Structurally a place in sustainable aviation
“Can we count on you so that the continuity of Groningen Airport Eelde has a structural place in the future of sustainable aviation in the Netherlands?”, De Groot concludes her plea.
