Airline Transavia has to disappoint passengers again due to a shortage of aircraft. In recent days, several flights to and from Eindhoven Airport have been canceled at the last minute. Until now, travelers flying from Schiphol have remained unaffected, but according to a Transavia spokesperson, extra flights will also be canceled there in the coming days. Not all breakdown passengers have been informed yet, according to Transavia, they will be informed in the coming hours.
Transavia could not yet indicate how many canceled flights it concerns. It is already clear that extra flights will be canceled this weekend. So far, the Schiphol timetable lists two canceled Transavia flights from Schiphol: to Nice and Bari.
A spokesman for Transavia calls the cancellation of holiday flights worthless: “There is an accumulation of work, much more than we have ever seen.” The shortage at Transavia is due to the accumulation of maintenance work, damage and delays in the delivery of five second-hand aircraft.
The papers of two of the five second-hand aircraft are now in order and the aircraft can be deployed. One of the aircraft under maintenance can be used again today.
Aircraft mechanics: accumulation of problems at Transavia, partly due to staff shortage
The cancellation of flights, resulting in thousands of passengers being affected, is partly due to a major shortage of technicians at Schiphol, the Dutch Association of Aviation Technicians (NVLT) told NH News.
The union already warned in February about cancellations and delays due to the staff shortage. The workforce is aging and, according to the NVLT, too little attention is paid to recruiting new technicians. Transavia denies that there is too little staff.
