The airports of the American city of Chicago had to temporarily halt air traffic on Wednesday local time due to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in the region. At least eight tornadoes hit northeastern Illinois, including four in Cook County, home to Chicago, the third-largest city in the US. Authorities urged people to stay indoors or seek shelter.
