Air France-KLM goes into winter business with a tailwind

PARIS (dpa-AFX) – Despite the deteriorating consumer mood, the airline Air France-KLM is optimistic about the upcoming winter business. The demand for flights remains high, which is why the flight offer is to be increased to 90 percent of the level before the pandemic in the first quarter of next year, as the Franco-Dutch company announced in Paris on Friday. In the past third quarter, flight capacities remained stable on this basis at 85 percent, largely due to bottlenecks at Amsterdam Airport.

Nevertheless, Air France-KLM carried 25 million passengers from July to the end of September, 47.6 percent more than in the same period last year. Sales even rose by 77.6 percent to 8.1 billion euros. At 1.02 billion euros, operating profit fell almost eight times as much as a year ago. The key figures are thus above the pre-corona level. The bottom line is that the airline earned 460 million euros after a loss of 192 million a year earlier.

“Air France-KLM made the most of strong travel demand over the past quarter,” said Ben Smith, CEO. For 2022, Smith is aiming for an operating profit of over 900 million euros./niw/mis
