In a hand-drawn comic she posted to Instagram, Aimee Mann revealed Steely Dan has dropped her as the opening musician for his upcoming tour.

“I was supposed to open for Steely Dan this summer,” she wrote in the comic, which features Donald Fagan singing “Doctor Wu.” “I just found out they took me off the bill. No one’s quite sure why,” she continued of a drawing of herself performing “Save Me,” “but apparently they thought their audience wouldn’t like a female singer-songwriter?”

“Coincidentally, Steely Dan is the only band I love 100% with no reservations, so it really sucks. But, you know what? People are not allowed to like you for whatever reason.” The comic ends with the words “Good luck to all the bands” appearing in a thought bubble above Mann’s head.

Meanwhile, Mann is no longer listed as a tour opener on Steely Dan’s website. She then tweeted, “All is forgiven if Donald just tells me what ‘Brooklyn’ is about.” The song she was referring to was the 1972 song of the same name.

However, Mann will soon be seen live again with her 2021 album “Queens of the Summer Hotel”, because she will play her own tour in the USA starting in April.
