We all have our favorite bands that have accompanied us through life for many years. If you were born in the seventies or eighties, they might be called Placebo or The Cure. Both bands were able to record great successes for themselves in the nineties and thereby influenced numerous people musically.
For The Cure, the track “Friday I’m In Love”, which appeared on the album “Wish” in 1992, was a real game changer in their career. To date, the upbeat indie-pop number remains the best-selling song from the Brits, who previously made a name for themselves with post-punk, new wave and dark wave influences. While the band is otherwise known for a more melancholy view of life, it’s always been the open approach to songwriting that fans of The Cure have come to appreciate.
Placebo, on the other hand, only just started their career in the mid-90s – but with a well-known fan right away. David Bowie became aware of the band around Brian Molko even before the release of their debut album and took them directly on tour. With the album “Placebo” they immediately achieved gold status in their home country Great Britain and were also able to win gold and platinum in Germany, Austria and Switzerland with their later albums.
