Liverpool new signing Gakpo among biggest winners of World Cup update
Gakpo was among the 53 winners in the latest World Cup update and increased his market value by €15m to €60m, with the Eredivisie losing their most valuable player. In addition, the right-footed player (still) leads the rankings of goal scorers and top scorers in the Dutch upper house with nine goals and twelve assists.
Brands recently announced on a talk show hosted by the PSV fan club “Eeuwig Trouw” that Gakpo is about to change winter. “You have to be realistic. If you talk about Cody Gakpo and the price that comes with it, there are maybe 10-12 clubs in Europe that can afford him,” Brands said (quoted via “Goal”). The amounts have not yet been discussed internally, “but if the right club comes, Cody would like to go. These agreements were made before I came.” Brands returned to PSV in the summer after four years.
Eindhoven loses Gakpo, a homegrown talent who has been trained at the club since 2007 and has made 159 appearances for PSV in all competitions since his professional debut in 2018, scoring 55 goals and providing 50 assists.
