During the confrontation between supporters of FC Emmen and FC Volendam, three police officers were assaulted last night.
The police officers suffered injuries from beatings, kicks and material thrown at them. They did not have to go to the hospital to be treated there.
The police announce that a 33-year-old man from Emmen has been arrested. He could be arrested in Zwolle. “The man could be traced there. And we do not rule out more arrests,” says police spokesman Derk Burger. The NOS reported that the three agents were mistreated by Emmen supporters, but the spokesman contradicts that. “That is still too early to say. We are looking at both support clubs and an investigation must determine who is responsible for the abuses.”
“Around the match, we stood on the line several times, the spokesperson explains. “These actions were mainly aimed at de-escalation. The officers were injured at different times and in different actions.”
In Volendam, things got out of hand between the fans of both clubs last night after FC Emmen’s lost match. The supporters got into fistfights and threw bicycles at each other, as can be seen on images circulating on social media. Police say they are studying the footage.
