Insights at DONE DEALS

Immediately before the transfer window closed, Ryan Naderi’s move from Hansa Rostock to top club Glasgow Rangers caused a stir. In the first half of the 2025/26 season, the German-Bulgarian was one of the best scorers in the third division with eight goals and five assists in 18 games – and was rewarded with a move to the Scottish Premiership on the night of February 2nd to 3rd. Advisor Laurent Burkart (B360 Sports) stated in a new episode “DONE DEALS – the Transfermarkt podcast” with host Fabian Knottnerus insights into the unusual deal that could bring Hansa Rostock a transfer fee of up to 6 million euros, including bonus payments.

“It was actually extremely exciting for everyone involved right up to the end,” explains Burkart. “We were on the way from England from the medical check to Glasgow relatively late in the evening, in the car with a Rangers employee. There were still details that had to be clarified between the clubs, but also final details regarding the player’s contract. It was really at the last minute. Ryan then had to do a few more medical tests at the Rangers site with the staff on site. We were finished a few moments before the deadline.”

Naderi, who signed a long-term contract in Glasgow, moved from Borussia Mönchengladbach to the Baltic Sea in the summer of 2024 for 200,000 euros. It increased its market value from 350,000 to 1.2 million euros in December. After a year and a half, the Rostockers were able to enjoy 30 times the transfer fee paid, which meant the biggest deal in the club’s history. Naderi replaced Victor Agali, who went to FC Schalke 04 for 5.1 million euros in the 2001/02 season.

Actually, Naderi wasn’t supposed to move to Scotland this winter, but only six months later. Burkart reveals in the podcast: “The Rangers had tried to sign other players in a loan model for this time window; Ryan was originally planned for the summer. The prices for these players kept going up. In the end, it was a business decision by the Rangers to say: Okay, we’ll go back to Naderi and have set ourselves an overall budget with which we want to realize an immediate transfer. We went back and forth several times with the owners who are based in the USA.” The process in this constellation was so nerve-wracking and stressful because the direction was only clear on the night from Sunday to Monday. 3rd League: Naderi’s Rangers transfer sets a new record

There has never been a transfer of this magnitude in the 3rd league. The record holder since 2023 has been Hendry Blank, who moved from BVB to Red Bull Salzburg for 4 million euros. Also in second and third place are ex-Freiburger Yannik Engelhardt and ex-Bayer Georg Niedermeier, players who were sold by Bundesliga clubs’ U23 teams. Hansa is setting new standards with Naderi (statistics: record transfers in the 3rd league).
