Bangalore (Reuters) – Apple will lose out in the dispute with Spotify over anti-competitive practices, according to the agency.
The EU competition watchdog is preparing to ban the practices in the smartphone manufacturer’s App Store, the Bloomberg agency reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Apple is preventing music services from moving their users from the App Store to alternative subscription options, it said. Statements from the US group and the EU were initially not available.
The music streaming service Spotify got the ball rolling. The Swedish company filed a complaint with the EU antitrust authority because it said it was forced to increase the prices of its subscriptions to cover the costs of the Apple Store. A decision is expected early next year. Apple could face a fine of up to ten percent of its annual sales.
