Christmas Circus Haarlem is canceling all three performances today due to the strong wind. General director René Duursma said this. Things weren’t going well: on the night of December 9 to 10, a tent canvas was also torn by storm Elin.
Since that night, they have been very wary at the Haarlem Christmas Circus. “We monitored the situation at the tent all night and around eight o’clock we had to conclude that it was not responsible to open. Safety comes first, we are not going to take any risks. The wind is even increasing tonight. yet,” said Duursma.

Performances were scheduled today at 11:30 AM, 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM tonight. In total there were about two thousand visitors. “It’s a shame. A lot of children were supposed to come this morning and we have to disappoint them. There were a few people at the cash register, but they fully understood the situation.”
Performance Guarantee
Visitors who already had a ticket for one of the three performances will be kept informed by email or text message. There is a performance guarantee: visitors can choose a new show.

“When the wind blows in Haarlem, it storms in the Reinalda Park,” Duursma explains. The circus is located in the park on an open lawn and it sometimes likes to ‘tour’ there on days like this. “The tent doesn’t really shake hard, but it’s more about the overall experience. You don’t really feel comfortable there. It’s not pleasant.”
“We will continue until January 7, so we still have plenty of time and sufficient alternatives to offer. If necessary, there will be an extra performance. It is of course also annoying for the artists, but they have gotten used to something by now.”
No problem
The general manager expects few more problems in the coming days. “Tomorrow we will still have a bit of wind. But the following days it seems to be a lot calmer.”
