In the southern French department of Gironde, about 700 hectares of forest went up in flames yesterday. For that reason, 150 local residents had to be evacuated, the prefecture reported. The fire brigade is currently still fighting two forest fires south of the metropolitan city of Bordeaux, in southwestern France.
