In the past week, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) received 272,222 reports of positive tests. That equates to 38,889 new cases per day. That is the lowest average since January 20, more than a month ago. The average falls for the twelfth day in a row. Compared to last week, the average has fallen by 38 percent.
Corona patients
There are currently 1,555 people with an infection in a hospital, according to the most recent figures from the National Coordination Center for Patients Distribution (LCPS). That is 19 fewer than 24 hours ago. The number of corona patients in hospitals also decreased from Tuesday to Wednesday, but there was an increase in the two days before that.
The drop on Thursday comes from the nursing wards. There are currently 1392 patients with corona being cared for, compared to 1411 on Wednesday. The nursing departments admitted 145 new people with a corona infection last 24 hours. Because even more people left the clinics, the occupation in the wards nevertheless decreased.
There are 163 corona patients in intensive care units, the same number as 24 hours ago. Wednesday was the first time in more than four months that so few patients with corona were in an IC. Last 24 hours, 17 new IC patients with an infection were added, but because an equal number died or were allowed to leave the wards, the occupation did not increase.
deaths
RIVM received thirteen reports that corona patients have died as a result of their infection. The fact that the death of these people has now been registered does not mean that they died within the past day. In addition, the actual number of deaths may be higher, as it is not mandatory to report that a corona patient has died from the infection.
