Again BK shrimp peeling this summer in Oostduinkerke

The Belgian Shrimp Peeling Championship took place for the first time last year with eighty participants. This year the Order of the Horse Fisherman is organizing the championship for a second time in Oostduinkerke. “This time, at least 100 shrimp peelers are taking part,” says chairman Marc Sirjacobs.

During the performance of the BK in Hotelschool Ter Duinen in Koksijde, students of the first grade Hospitality & Nutrition were taught the technique of peeling shrimp by some members of the Order of Horse Fishermen. Students of the seventh year World Gastronomy prepared a number of dishes with the peeled shrimps, including shrimp croquettes.

New order members

Today, four people are also included as members of the Order because of their merits in gastronomy. Chairman Marc Sirjacobs will declare Frans Saint Germain (Chef Salons Saint German), Peter Verbeke (director Hotelschool Ter Duinen), Dries Cloet and Bart Denys (both chef and teacher) members of the Order of the Horse Fisherman.

The BK Shrimp Peeling takes place on Sunday 25 June in Oostduinkerke. The first edition was won by Nadine Deetens. Contestants must peel as many shrimps as possible in ten minutes. See also: World Cup Shrimp Peeling: TOP 3 completely West Flemish
