Again AZ player Tijjani Reijnders falls outside the boat at Orange: “Would have been great”

Many players from the premier league were part of the pre-selection of the Dutch national team. A name that was missing was that of Tijjani Reijnders. The AZ midfielder is going through a solid season, but still has to wait a while for his chance. “It would have been nice,” says Reijnders.

Lately, the sounds have been increasingly circulating to call up Reijnders for the Dutch national team. The 24-year-old AZ midfielder is a constant factor and shows weekly that he can compete at the highest level. A call from national coach Ronald Koeman might have been logical. “It would have been great. It’s up to me to make sure I’m part of it next time.”

His ‘buddy’ in midfield is part of the provisional selection of Orange. Jordy Clasie is the only AZ player who has a chance to be called up definitively. Trainer Pascal Jansen thinks it is logical that Clasie is there. “He is one of the best midfielders in the Eredivisie,” he says after the match won against Vitesse (0-1). “Tijjani has managed quite reasonably this season. Now that he is not there, I think the aim is that he will be there next time.”
