After youth, adult residents of Assen with a low income also receive an allowance for the gym and cinema

Assen residents with a small budget can receive an allowance for the sports club or a cultural outing from 1 May. This measure is a follow-up to last year’s test with sports and culture vouchers.

The Youth Fund has always been available in Assen for children from minimum income families, but adults with an income of up to 120 percent of the social minimum can also apply for compensation for the total range of sports and culture in Assen from next month.

Sports and culture fund

Residents with an income of up to 120 percent of the social minimum could already apply for vouchers for an amount of 150 euros last year. With this they could, for example, pay for sports subscriptions or tickets for cultural activities. The scheme was part of the ‘Assen after Corona’ recovery agenda and was paid for with corona support from the government.

For many people, applying for small amounts for a visit to DNK or the Drents Museum turned out to be very attractive, which is why Assen now wants to finalize the scheme. Assen makes 250,000 euros available annually for this purpose. In the new scheme, residents of Assen can spend not 150, but 250 euros. Also, almost all of the cultural and sports sector is now available.

Requests easier

According to the municipality, the application procedure has become simpler. Residents can contact the neighborhood teams of Vaart Welzijn for a contribution or subscription fee and a reimbursement of cinema, theater or museum tickets. These teams then ensure that the application is handled by the right authority.

According to Assen, not only people with a low income will benefit from the new scheme. The municipality also sees the fund as ‘a great way for sports and cultural associations and organizations to get in touch with new members’. Via the website of the municipality, all possibilities can be viewed.
