After years of deep malaise: Chamber agrees to dismissal of directors of the Data Protection Authority | Inland

It was a secret ballot. The House follows the recommendation of the Justice Committee, which had deliberated behind closed doors for weeks about the fate of the duo. The dismissal procedure was started in March after an audit by the Court of Audit. Dereppe and Stevens were also discussed during the hearings.

The GBA has been suffering from a deep malaise for years. The service’s five directors are each responsible for their own department, but they no longer agree with each other. Alexandra Jaspar resigned at the end of last year, because she believes the organization fell prey to conflicts of interest and a lack of integrity. She will be replaced by GBA lawyer Cédrine Molière, the Chamber decided earlier.

The institution also ended up on the radar of the European Commission due to the malaise, which objected, among other things, to the position of top federal official Frank Robben in the knowledge center of the GBA. He took a step back in February.

After the summer, the House will vote on reforms for the GBA, which were given the green light by the government on the proposal of competent State Secretary Mathieu Michel (MR). That writes ‘De Standaard’. The reforms should ensure that peace returns to the privacy watchdog. The files are piling up there due to the bickering between the directors. According to an audit by the Court of Audit that ‘De Standaard’ was able to view, the privacy watchdog is in full swing.
