The 21-year-old suffered a syndesmosis tear in his right ankle, as the Bundesliga club announced. The Dutchman needs an operation and will be out for the rest of the season. Frimpong is one of the top performers at Leverkusen and has started 25 of 26 Bundesliga games this season.
Like national player Florian Wirtz, he was injured in his club’s 1-0 defeat on Sunday (March 13, 2022) in the Rhenish derby against 1. FC Köln. Wirtz is also out for months with a cruciate ligament tear.
