After the scandal video: Melanie Müller is accused of the Nazi salute – the police are investigating further

A video was released on social media showing men giving Hitler salutes during a concert by Melanie Müller. Now the Schlager singer herself is accused of having shown the Hitler salute on stage.

The new accusation is based on the video material described above: It should be possible to see how Müller raises her right hand several times. In the course of this, the Leipzig police are said to have expanded the investigation: “We are aware of the new video, which is why we have expanded our investigation. It is about the allegation of using license plates of unconstitutional organizations according to paragraph 86a of the Criminal Code,” said a spokeswoman for the state police in Leipzig. The paragraph mentioned refers to features such as flags, badges, pieces of uniform, slogans or forms of greeting.

“I have nothing to do with right-wing radicals or nationalistic ideas”

The singer told the “Bild” newspaper about the accusation: “I’ve been on stage for eleven years and always do these hand movements. Not from a right-wing extremist background, but ‘Zicke zacke zicke zacke’, exactly the way I do it there”.

She then published another statement on her Instagram account on September 28: “The media fire, the unjustified allegations against me, the claim that I am working together with right-wing extremists and move in right-wing extremist surroundings hit me hard physically and mentally . I repeat once again: I have nothing to do with right-wing radicals or nationalist ideas. I condemn that in the strongest possible terms.”

In order to avoid further cases of this kind, she canceled her appearance in Dresden on September 28th. “Nazis don’t belong in my audience. In the current situation, I can’t just go into a party mood so easily,” said Müller in another Instagram post. The investigations into the new allegation are ongoing – so far the Leipzig police have not announced any results.
