Palestinian Fahmi Al Achqar (22) has been acquitted by the Antwerp assize court. He was tried, together with Ali Alhaj Mahmoud (25), on charges of taking a minor hostage resulting in the death, nine-year-old Daniel Al Alali. The jury’s motivation states that there is “reasonable doubt”. The boy’s mother reacted furiously. Justifiably? And why did the jury actually have doubts?
