The extreme conditions at the Formula 1 heat race in Qatar and the complaints from many drivers have brought the world association into action.
“Even if they are high-performance athletes, one should not expect them to take part in a competition under such circumstances that endangers their health or safety,” said the International Automobile Federation FIA on Monday evening (October 9th, 2023). The governing body will take all appropriate measures to establish an acceptable framework for competitions.
At the Grand Prix in Qatar on Sunday, several pilots had to receive medical treatment due to dehydration. Due to the extreme heat and high humidity, many drivers complained of feeling unwell and some had to vomit during the race. “That was far too dangerous,” said McLaren driver Lando Norris.
Fia is looking for a way out
The FIA announced an investigation and further consultations by the association’s medical commission. Increased research is possible to promote air circulation in the cockpits. Recommendations are also being considered as to how the racing calendar can be better tailored to the climatic conditions of the host locations.
Next season the race in Qatar is not scheduled until December 1st.
