Will Smith and his Oscar slap to Chris Rock continue to be the talk of the town. While the stars have taken public positions against Smith, Rock has since backed down. Although or precisely because not a word has been heard from him since the attack, interest in the comedian now seems to have increased significantly.

Ticket sales skyrocket

The Hollywood Reporter reports that ticket sales for Chris Rock’s stand-up show have skyrocketed over the past two days. The American ticket exchange StubHub reported that in the past 48 hours per day, more than 25 times as many tickets for the Rocks Tour were sold as in the previous month. This means that the number of total sales in the last two days exceeds that of March as a whole. The average price has also increased from the original $150-200 to around $250 per card.

The reason for the price increase is clear

According to StubHub, such price increases usually occur one or two days before an event. However, the fact that Rock’s next performance is not scheduled to take place until April 8th led the company to suspect that the increased interest was based on the incident on Oscar night.

After the 57-year-old joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head while hosting his Oscars, husband Will Smith angrily darted onto the stage to slap him. It is believed Rock was unaware that Pinkett Smith suffers from an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. The comedian wanted to do without an ad.

Jim Carrey, Alec Baldwin and other celebrities were critical of the matter. Will Smith himself posted an apology on Instagram after only apologizing to the Academy and the guests in attendance at the Oscars in his acceptance speech for the Best Actor award. The Academy has launched an investigation into Smith that could cost him his Oscar.
