After the indictment: Is RTL now also distancing itself from Gil Ofarim?

The Leipzig public prosecutor has accused Gil Ofarim of defamation and false suspicion. According to RTL insiders, his collaboration with the private broadcaster is now on the brink. That reports the “Picture on Sunday” citing sources at the station. Accordingly, on the same day as the indictment became public, further action was discussed. And on the following day, too, there was talk of whether the artist could still be booked for shows and events.

It is currently planned that Gil Ofarim will appear on the RTL show “Die Passion” on April 15th. In the event moderated by Thomas Gottschalk, the musician is intended for the role of a disciple. According to the latest reports, Gil Ofarim could now possibly be replaced – but there is no official statement on this yet. So it is not clear whether RTL has already made a decision. In the past, the star has appeared on “Ninja Warriors” and “Let’s Dance,” among others.

RTL publishes interview with media expert

Instead of announcing a decision, RTL published on Saturday (02 April) an interview with the media psychologist Jo Groebel. “The matter was so inscrutable and we still don’t know to this day whether he made these allegations from other knowledge, from other beliefs at the time, or was it a planned thing,” says Groebel.

According to his assessment, the matter does not necessarily mean a career for the musician and TV star: “This is not elegant. This hasn’t been particularly great either, if it was intentional. But it is different from many other cases and does not necessarily mean the end of a career. “We shouldn’t be more extreme than a public prosecutor who has done a lot of research. In that respect yes, there is a break in the image, but there are also the bad boys in the industry who usually do not comment on such topics, who then continued with music anyway.”

Gil Ofarim has to explain himself: Will the case go to court?

Gil Ofarim publicly complained in October 2021 that he had been exposed to anti-Semitism in a Leipzig hotel. In a video he published on Instagram, he explained that hotel staff had suggested he take off his Star of David. The public prosecutor’s office now assumes that the situation in the hotel is different than Ofarim’s description. The Leipzig Regional Court has not yet approved the charges and the musician has the opportunity to comment on this together with his lawyers.
