After the game was abandoned in Bochum – the police have a suspect

After the cup throwing scandal in the canceled Bundesliga match between VfL Bochum and Borussia Mönchengladbach, there is a suspect.

According to a joint statement by the police and the public prosecutor’s office, this is a 38-year-old from Bochum. However, he has not yet gotten involved, the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, VfL is considering a ban on alcohol in the stands. This measure is being discussed, said Ilja Kaenzig as spokesman for the management of VfL Bochum of the “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung”. The alcohol ban could take effect in the next home game against Bayer Leverkusen.

The game against Gladbach was stopped on Friday evening when the score was 2-0 for the guests in the second half after assistant referee Christian Gittelmann was hit by a drinking cup.

Kaenzig, on the other hand, rejected safety fences: “We stand for a community experience for the fans in the stadium. We don’t want some idiots to ruin the experience for 99.9 percent of our fans.” Because of the escape and rescue routes, this might not even be possible. The club is waiting for the results of the investigating police. However, Kaenzig assumes that the perpetrator will turn himself in: “We know that more and more witnesses are coming forward, and the pressure on social media is also increasing.”
