After the FC Bayern Gala: Nagelsmann “proud”

With a clear 5-0 win over SC Freiburg, FC Bayern sent a warning to the competition in the fight for the German championship on Sunday. Coach Julian Nagelsmann was full of praise for his enthusiastic team after the game. Freiburg coach Christian Streich wants to finish the game quickly. The votes for the game:

Julian Nagelsmann (Coach FC Bayern Munich)

… to its rotation: “The lads all played a great game. Concentrated from the first minute. Choupo-Moting did very well, is a good target player up front. I’m proud of the team because they played well and at altitude deservedly won.”

… on the question of whether some players are fighting for the starting XI: “Everyone does it. That’s the goal, we said that before the season. Choupo-Moting was away for a long time last season, missed a lot of games for various reasons. Now he’s fought his way up and had a good phase in training . He’s a target player who’s often missed in the media. We’re glad we have him.”

… on the question of whether Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer are ready to play again in the cup: “There is a chance, it cannot be ruled out. I have not planned it in my head, I look from day to day. I currently see a more realistic chance with Thomas than with Manu. With Manu it is an issue of how restricted he is without painkillers I don’t want him to play on painkillers, otherwise it will get worse. We still have a lot to do with Manu, so you have to see how quickly the shoulder heals.”

Christian Streich (Coach SC Freiburg)

… on the question of how much the defeat hurts: “Not so much. We didn’t have a chance because Bayern were mentally faster on the pitch. We didn’t manage to press and were incredibly good. We could have gone into a duel before, but we didn’t do it. From the energy we weren’t able to stand up to Bayern, so we lost 5-0.”

…on what he will be talking about after the game: “About not much. We’re going home, on Wednesday we’ll play again at 6 p.m. and on Saturday the Bundesliga will continue. That’s how it is. It’s nice that we can play. We want to make people forget that. We weren’t good enough and everyone knows that. The players weren’t good enough, I wasn’t good enough. We tried to die – it was probably wrong.”

Nicolas Hofler (SC Freiburg)

… to the game: “We didn’t do what made us strong all season: put energy on the pitch and work compactly against the ball. It was a used day for us. The bottom line is that we also deservedly lost at altitude.”

… to the opponent: “Bayern were there and so motivated, as if they were going into an absolutely top game. That was it in the standings too. They were compact and agile on the ball. Everyone knows that they have enormous qualities with the ball. We didn’t make it to stop that.”

… to the high load: “That also plays a small role. Bayern also had an English week, we had a day less to recover. We can look for different reasons – we have to work through it and get our game back on the pitch in the next game.”

… to the sporting situation: “Internationally, we’re very confident so far. We’ve won four times and it’s a development step. I would have liked to see that against Bayern, but we didn’t make it. Maybe in the next game against Bayern.”

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (Bayern Munich goalscorer)

… about his use: “I’m happy that I played and that we all played such a game together. From the first to the last second we showed who was the boss. It was a lot of fun.”

… to the game: “There were some very nice goals. Personally, I’m happy with my goal, my assist and the way we played. We have to build on that.”

… on the question of whether his performance was an application: “What does an application mean? I try to step on the gas every day in training. The boys see that. We have a good team with a lot of quality. It’s okay that there’s a lot of media talk, that’s part of it. Everyone has their opinion and is allowed to have it I know what I can do and I can help the team. Julian knows that I see it that way. All the better that it worked out that way. I want to keep playing a lot and be successful with the team.”

Christian Günter (Captain SC Freiburg)

… to the factors for the defeat: “The speed Bayern have over the center over and over again. It’s incredibly difficult to defend that. We didn’t manage to defend well enough. Overall, Bayern were the better team, we have to acknowledge that. Still, everyone tried to throw everything in. You can’t blame the team. The result is a bit too high, that annoys us too. Wipe your mouth and get through on Wednesday. Then everything will be fine again.”

… to the English week: “So far we’ve been very good in the games, we’ve always performed well on the pitch. So far we can be satisfied with the season. The path must continue, we have quality in the team. It didn’t go well in the game, but in the coming games we have the right to score again.”

Serge Gnabry (goal scorer FC Bayern Munich)

… to the game: “It was very good to have such a good game from the whole team. A sign from us after a few weeks that were unnecessarily difficult. We now want to continue.”

… on the performance of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: “I’m telling him for the third time that he’s the world’s best sole player. He’s incredibly good at holding the ball, whether with the sole or the one touch. He made a great game.”

… to the goals until the winter break: “Winning every game we play. Dropping a few unnecessary points means we know the pressure is on. We have to win the games and we want to take all the points before the World Cup break.”
