Crystal Palace with the former Bundesliga coach Oliver Glasner moves to the International Sports Court CAS as announced after the exclusion from the Europa League. The court based in Lausanne confirmed the appeal against the decision of the European Football Union. A decision should be made by August 11 at the latest.
The UEFA had relocated the English Premier League club on July 11th to the lower class Conference League. The reason for the decision is regulations for the so-called multi-club ownership. According to the UEFA, both FA-Cup winners Palace and Olympique Lyon have violated them, because until recently the American John Textor held large shares in both clubs. According to UEFA rules, two or more clubs controlled by an institution are prohibited in the same competition. Lyon remains in competition because it could avert a forced descent from the French Ligue 1. For Palace, Liga Control Nottingham Forest got the starting place in the Europa League, although the club had just missed the European Cup as the table seventh.
Crystal Palace complains to downgrade to the Europa League in front of the CAS with a simultaneous rejection of the participation of Nottingham. Alternatively, the resumption to the Europa League is requested while rejection of the participation of Lyon. Club president Steve Parish had resisted the allegation of the influence of textor in the shops of Crystal Palace. In his opinion, Crystal Palace does not fall under the rule that UEFA used. He thinks it is “one of the greatest injustices that have ever happened in European football”.
