Discus thrower Mika Sosna won the seventh gold medal for the German hosts at the World University Games Rhein-Ruhr.
The 22-year-old, who started at the Olympic Games in Paris last year, prevailed in the German double victory with 64.26 meters ahead of Steven Richter (61.77 m). It was the first athletics medals for the “Team Studi” in the renovated Lohrheide Stadium in Bochum.
Björn Kammann had previously taken care of the first medal of the German swimmers: the 24-year-old won silver over 100 m butterfly in Berlin. Kammann was missing three tenths on winner Gianmarco Sansone (Italy).
Meanwhile, Tim Axer celebrated the next success of the water jumpers: the 18-year-old, who had missed a medal from the 3 m board on Friday, fetched bronze from the 1 m board. The water jumpers had previously won gold three times.
So far, the German team has won a total of 21 medals at the games that were previously known as universiades, which end on Sunday.
