After the death of the Queen: Premier League continues – Three games postponed

Chelsea v Liverpool affected

The English Premier League will resume play on Friday after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. However, three games will be postponed “due to the events surrounding the Queen’s funeral”, as the league announced on Monday evening. The matches of Chelsea FC against Jürgen Klopps FC Liverpool, Manchester United against Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion against Crystal Palace are affected.

Catch-up dates are not yet known. The Queen’s state funeral is set for September 19. Also below the Premier League should be played again from Thursday. This was announced by the responsible English Football League (EFL). There will be a minute’s silence before the games. Players are to wear crape, flags are to be flown at half-staff and the national anthem is to be played.

However, individual game cancellations could still occur. Now that “a national policing plan is in place, the league and clubs will continue to work together to the best of their ability to deal with any challenges that may arise in relation to policing specific matches,” the EFL statement said. Decisions would be made on a “case by case” basis.
